Do I have autism?

Autism screening · all ages

Autism is often identified late, particularly in people who built strong coping strategies early and have been masking ever since. A late recognition is not a lesser one — for most people it explains decades of effort that nobody else could see.

It might be something else

Autism and ADHD overlap considerably, and many people have both. Social anxiety, trauma and burnout can also produce several of these experiences. An assessment exists to tell them apart rather than to confirm what you already suspect.

The standard we work to. This assessment follows NICE CG142, autism spectrum disorder in adults: diagnosis and management, and NICE CG128 for under-19s. Both are public, and worth reading before you choose any provider — including us.

This is not a diagnostic test

Nothing on this page diagnoses anything, and no online questionnaire can. A diagnosis requires a full developmental history, information from someone who knew you as a child where possible, and a clinician ruling out the alternatives.

Plexus is not an emergency service

If you or someone else is at immediate risk of harm, call 999 or go to your nearest A&E. For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option. The Samaritans are available free, day or night, on 116 123.

Wondering about both? Do I have ADHD? — ADHD and autism overlap considerably, and they can be assessed together.
