About Plexus
Built around one idea: that expert psychiatric assessment should be available in weeks, not years — and should be carried out by a consultant with the experience to get it right first time.
Why we exist
ADHD and autism assessment in the UK has a queueing problem. Waits of two, three and four years are now routine in parts of the country, and the people on those lists are not waiting comfortably — they are losing jobs, relationships and confidence while they wait for an appointment that, done well, takes a few hours.
General psychiatry has a second problem on top of the wait: continuity. People are assessed by one clinician and reviewed by another, treated for the symptom in front of whoever is on duty, and rarely seen by anyone senior enough to ask whether the original formulation was right in the first place.
Plexus was founded to do one thing well: put a consultant psychiatrist in front of you quickly, give you an unhurried assessment against national standards, and hand you a clear answer with a plan and the paperwork to act on it.
Every assessment here is done by a consultant psychiatrist. That is the point, and it is what everything else is arranged around.

How we practise
Five things we commit to
Expertise without compromise
Every patient is assessed by a consultant psychiatrist on the GMC Specialist Register. We do not delegate diagnosis to trainees or non-medical assessors, because the difficult part of psychiatry is not administering a questionnaire — it is knowing what else it could be.
Speed with safety
Moving quickly and cutting corners are not the same thing. We hold to NICE standards, take a full developmental history, and ask for collateral information — we simply do not make you wait months for the appointment in which we do it.
Affirmation, not judgement
We take a neurodiversity-affirmative approach. A diagnosis should explain your life back to you and open doors, not reduce you to a deficit. Reports describe strengths alongside difficulties.
Honesty, always
If we do not think you have the condition you came to be assessed for, we will say so and explain what we think is happening instead. An honest “no” with a plan is worth far more than an accommodating “yes”.
Partnership
Your GP, and sometimes your employer or university, are part of your care. We write the documentation they need and support the conversations that follow, rather than handing you a report and disappearing.

A consultant psychiatrist with more than a decade at consultant level, including Clinical Director in the NHS and Medical Director in the independent sector. He helped establish NHS adult ADHD services across Cambridge, Peterborough and West Norfolk, and is formally trained in ADOS-2 and ADI-R.
He founded Plexus after watching too many people wait years for an assessment that takes an afternoon to do well. Every assessment here is carried out by a consultant psychiatrist.
